HTET TGT Science Syllabus 2026

TGT Science asks you to hold three subjects at once. Physics, Chemistry and Biology each contribute to the same sixty-mark section, and the Board draws on all three without warning you which is coming. Candidates from a single-discipline background usually find one of the three quietly eroding their score.

The breakdown below is the official Level-2 syllabus as notified: the sixty marks of core Science across all three disciplines, the ninety marks of common papers shared by every Level-2 subject, and the 2026 exam pattern in full.

Before the topic lists, here is how the paper is weighted. HTET Level-2 has only one paper of 150 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) carrying 150 marks, with a duration of two-and-a-half hours and no negative marking. Each question has four alternatives, out of which one is correct.

The qualifying mark is 60% (90 marks) for all categories, and 55% (82 marks) for Scheduled Castes and Differently Abled/Physically Challenged candidates of Haryana.

Part 1: Common Subjects Syllabus (90 Marks) - HTET TGT Science Syllabus 2026

Securing high scores in the common section is the secret to clearing the cut-off. All Level-2 candidates answer these same three sections, whatever their teaching subject.

1. Child Development and Pedagogy (30 Marks)

This section focuses on the educational psychology of teaching and learning relevant to the age group of 11–16 years. HTET Child Development and Psychology practice questions.

  • Child Development: Concept of development and its relationship with learning, principles of the development of children, influence of Heredity & Environment.
  • Socialization Processes: Social world & children – teacher, parents and peers.
  • Key Theories: Piaget, Kohlberg and Vygotsky – constructs and critical perspectives.
  • Concepts: Child-centred and progressive education; critical perspective of the construct of Intelligence; Multi-Dimensional Intelligence; Language & Thought.
  • Gender & Diversity: Gender as a social construct, gender roles, gender bias and educational practice; individual differences among learners based on diversity of language, caste, gender, community and religion.
  • Assessment: Distinction between assessment for learning and assessment of learning; School-Based Assessment; Continuous & Comprehensive Evaluation; formulating appropriate questions for assessing readiness levels and critical thinking.
  • Inclusive Education: Understanding children with special needs, learners from disadvantaged and deprived backgrounds, children with learning difficulties and impairment, and addressing talented, creative and specially abled learners.
  • Learning & Pedagogy: How children think and learn; why children “fail” to achieve success; basic processes of teaching and learning; learning as a social activity; child as a problem solver and “scientific investigator”; understanding children’s “errors” as significant steps in learning; cognition & emotions; motivation; personal and environmental factors contributing to learning.

2. Language Proficiency (30 Marks)

Split evenly between Hindi and English, this part tests your foundational linguistic control and language pedagogy.

  • Language I – Hindi (15 Marks): One unseen passage from prose, drama or poetry with questions on comprehension, inference, grammar and verbal ability. Practise the Hindi Grammar question bank here.

  • Pedagogy of Language Development (both languages): Learning and acquisition; principles of language teaching; role of listening and speaking and how children use language as a tool; critical perspective on the role of grammar; challenges of teaching language in a diverse classroom; language difficulties, errors and disorders; language skills.
  • Teaching-Learning Materials: Textbook, multi-media materials and multilingual resources of the classroom.

3. General Studies (30 Marks)

A composite section designed to test your mental aptitude and awareness of Haryana.

  • Haryana G.K. and Awareness (10 Marks): Haryana related history, current affairs, literature, geography, civics, environment, culture, art, traditions and welfare schemes of the Haryana Government. Attempt the Haryana GK practice set.
  • General Intelligence & Reasoning (10 Marks): Semantic, symbolic/number and figural analogy; classification; series; problem solving; word building; coding & decoding; numerical and symbolic operations; trends; space orientation and visualization; Venn diagrams; drawing inferences; punched hole and pattern folding/unfolding; figural pattern folding and completion; indexing; address matching; date & city matching; embedded figures; critical thinking; emotional and social intelligence.   • Quantitative Aptitude (10 Marks): Whole numbers, decimals, fractions and relationships between numbers; percentage; ratio & proportion; square roots; averages; interest; profit and loss; discount; partnership business; mixture and allegation; time and distance; time & work; basic algebraic identities and elementary surds; graphs of linear equations; triangle and its various kinds of centres; congruence and similarity of triangles; circle and its chords and tangents; quadrilaterals; regular polygons; right prism, right circular cone and cylinder, sphere, hemispheres, rectangular parallelepiped and regular right pyramid; trigonometric ratios; degree and radian measures; standard identities; complementary angles; heights and distances; histogram, frequency polygon, bar diagram & pie chart. Part II: Core Subject – Science (60 Marks)

Questions are based on the topics of the syllabus prescribed by the Board of School Education Haryana for classes VI to X, but their difficulty level and conceptual linkages can extend up to the senior secondary stage. The 60-mark Science paper is drawn from three streams.

A) Chemistry

  • Sorting Material and Group: Objects around us, properties of materials, appearance, hardness, soluble or insoluble, transparency, objects that float or sink in water.
  • Separation of Substances: Mixtures and their types, methods of separation, filtration, threshing, evaporation, sedimentation and decantation, sieving, winnowing.
  • Acids, Bases and Salts: Acids and bases, natural indicators around us, neutralisation and neutralisation in everyday life.
  • Physical and Chemical Change: Physical changes, chemical changes, rusting of iron, crystallisation.
  • Coal and Petroleum: Coal, petroleum, natural gas, exhaustible natural resources.
  • Combustion and Flame: Combustion, controlling fire, types of combustion, structure of flame, what is a fuel, fuel efficiency.
  • Matter in Our Surroundings: Physical nature of matter, characteristics of particles of matter, states of matter, change of state, evaporation.
  • Is Matter Around Us Pure: Mixtures, solutions, separating the components of a mixture, types of pure substances.
  • Atoms and Molecules: Laws of chemical combination, atom, molecule, mole concept, molecular mass, chemical formula.
  • Structure of Atom: Charged particles in matter, structure of the atom, distribution of electrons in orbits, valency, atomic number and mass number.
  • Chemical Equations and Reactions: Chemical reactions, chemical equations, types of chemical reaction, effects of oxidation reactions in everyday life.
  • Metals and Non-Metals: Physical and chemical properties, reaction of metals with water, air and acids, reactivity series, properties of ionic compounds, occurrence, extraction, refining, corrosion and its prevention.
  • Carbon and its Compounds: Bonding in carbon – covalent bond, chemical properties of carbon compounds, ethanol and ethanoic acid, soaps and detergents.

B) Biology

  • Fundamental Unit of Life: Cell, its structural organisation and functions, cell division.
  • The World of the Living: Forms and functions of plants and animals; plant and animal tissues.
  • Diversity in Living Organisms: Classification of plants and animals with their characters.
  • Life Processes: Nutrition, respiration, transportation and excretion, including the various systems of human beings.
  • Body Movements: Movement in animals, the human body and its movement, control and coordination in plants and animals.
  • Reproduction in Organisms: Asexual and sexual reproduction, reproductive health (adolescence and puberty), heredity and evolution.
  • Disease: Types, causes, agents, treatment and prevention.
  • Environment: Weather, climate and adaptation of organisms to different climates and habitats, ecosystem, pollution, biogeochemical cycles, ozone layer, animal husbandry, soil, water, forest and wildlife, environmental awareness, conservation of plants and animals, natural resources and their management.
  • Food: Its resources, components and functions, improvement in food resources, crop production and management, improvement in crop yields, crop protection management.
  • Microorganisms: Useful and harmful microorganisms and their role.

C) Physics

  • Motion & Measurement: Types of motion, uniform and non-uniform motion, speed, velocity and acceleration, distance-time and velocity-time graphs, equations of motion, uniform circular motion, measurement of distance and time.
  • Force and Laws of Motion: Types of forces, balanced and unbalanced forces, Newton’s three laws of motion, friction, factors affecting friction, friction as a necessary evil, wheels and fluid friction.
  • Gravitation: Universal law of gravitation and its importance, free fall, value of g, mass and weight, weight of an object on the moon, thrust and pressure, atmospheric pressure, pressure in fluids, buoyancy and Archimedes’ principle.
  • Work, Energy & Power: Scientific concept of work, work done by a constant force, kinetic and potential energy, law of conservation of energy, rate of doing work.
  • Sound: Production and propagation of sound, characteristics of sound waves, speed of sound in different media, echo, reverberation, range of hearing, audible and inaudible sounds, noise and music, noise pollution, applications of ultrasound.
  • Light: Transparent, opaque and translucent objects, pinhole camera, Braille system, reflection of light, spherical mirrors and ray diagrams, mirror formula and magnification, refraction of light, refractive index, spherical lenses, lens formula and power of a lens.
  • The Human Eye: Power of accommodation, defects of vision and their correction – myopia, hypermetropia and presbyopia; refraction through a prism, dispersion of white light, atmospheric refraction, scattering of light and the Tyndall effect.
  • Electricity & Circuits: Electric cell and circuit, electric switch, current, potential, Ohm’s law, factors affecting resistance, series and parallel grouping of resistors, specific resistance, heating effect of current and its applications, electric power, chemical effect of current, electroplating.
  • Magnetic Effects of Electric Current: Magnetic field and field lines, field due to a straight conductor, circular loop and solenoid, right-hand thumb rule, Fleming’s left-hand and right-hand rules, force on a current-carrying conductor, electromagnet, electric bell, domestic electric circuit, motor and A.C. generator.
  • Nature and structure of Science, aims and objectives of teaching Science at the upper primary and secondary level.
  • Methods and approaches of teaching Science, activity and laboratory-based learning, scientific method and enquiry.
  • Teaching-learning material, science kits, improvised apparatus and the use of ICT in the Science classroom.
  • Evaluation and assessment in Science, remedial teaching and diagnosis of learners’ difficulties.

How to Prepare for the HTET TGT Science Syllabus 2026

Questions in Level-2 are set on the topics prescribed by the Board of School Education Haryana for classes VI to X, but their difficulty and conceptual linkages can extend up to the senior secondary stage. Plan accordingly.

  • Start with the BSEH/NCERT textbooks of classes VI–X for Science and build your notes chapter-wise before touching any guidebook.
  • Treat the common 90 marks seriously: child development, languages and general studies are predictable and therefore winnable.
  • Revise Haryana G.K. and current affairs weekly; this is the section most candidates leave until it is too late.
  • Sit full 150-question mocks under the clock; pacing is a separate skill from knowing the material.
  • Solve previous year HTET Level-2 Science papers to understand the question style and the recurring topics.
  • Subject pedagogy overlaps with child development, so preparing one strengthens the other.
