Sanskrit at Level-2 is heavily structural. व्याकरण - sandhi, samasa, karaka, declension and conjugation - carries a large share of the sixty marks, and unlike subjects where wide reading compensates for gaps, an unlearned paradigm simply costs you the question.

Before the topic lists, here is how the paper is weighted. HTET Level-2 has only one paper of 150 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) carrying 150 marks, with a duration of two-and-a-half hours and no negative marking. Each question has four alternatives, out of which one is correct.

The qualifying mark is 60% (90 marks) for all categories, and 55% (82 marks) for Scheduled Castes and Differently Abled/Physically Challenged candidates of Haryana.

Part 1: Common Subjects Syllabus (90 Marks) - HTET TGT Sanskrit Syllabus 2026

Securing high scores in the common section is the secret to clearing the cut-off. This block is common to every Level-2 paper, which makes it predictable ground.

1. Child Development and Pedagogy (30 Marks)

This section focuses on the educational psychology of teaching and learning relevant to the age group of 11–16 years. HTET Child Development and Psychology practice questions.

  • Child Development: Concept of development and its relationship with learning, principles of the development of children, influence of Heredity & Environment.
  • Socialization Processes: Social world & children – teacher, parents and peers.
  • Key Theories: Piaget, Kohlberg and Vygotsky – constructs and critical perspectives.
  • Concepts: Child-centred and progressive education; critical perspective of the construct of Intelligence; Multi-Dimensional Intelligence; Language & Thought.
  • Gender & Diversity: Gender as a social construct, gender roles, gender bias and educational practice; individual differences among learners based on diversity of language, caste, gender, community and religion.
  • Assessment: Distinction between assessment for learning and assessment of learning; School-Based Assessment; Continuous & Comprehensive Evaluation; formulating appropriate questions for assessing readiness levels and critical thinking.
  • Inclusive Education: Understanding children with special needs, learners from disadvantaged and deprived backgrounds, children with learning difficulties and impairment, and addressing talented, creative and specially abled learners.
  • Learning & Pedagogy: How children think and learn; why children “fail” to achieve success; basic processes of teaching and learning; learning as a social activity; child as a problem solver and “scientific investigator”; understanding children’s “errors” as significant steps in learning; cognition & emotions; motivation; personal and environmental factors contributing to learning.

2. Language Proficiency (30 Marks)

Split evenly between Hindi and English, this part tests your foundational linguistic control and language pedagogy.

  • Language I – Hindi (15 Marks): One unseen passage from prose, drama or poetry with questions on comprehension, inference, grammar and verbal ability. Practise the Hindi Grammar question bank here.
  • Language II – English (15 Marks): One unseen prose passage (discursive, literary, narrative or scientific) with questions on comprehension, grammar and verbal ability. Practise the English Grammar question bank here.
  • Pedagogy of Language Development (both languages): Learning and acquisition; principles of language teaching; role of listening and speaking and how children use language as a tool; critical perspective on the role of grammar; challenges of teaching language in a diverse classroom; language difficulties, errors and disorders; language skills.
  • Teaching-Learning Materials: Textbook, multi-media materials and multilingual resources of the classroom.

3. General Studies (30 Marks)

A composite section designed to test your mental aptitude and awareness of Haryana.

  • Haryana G.K. and Awareness (10 Marks): Haryana related history, current affairs, literature, geography, civics, environment, culture, art, traditions and welfare schemes of the Haryana Government. Attempt the Haryana GK practice set.
  • General Intelligence & Reasoning (10 Marks): Semantic, symbolic/number and figural analogy; classification; series; problem solving; word building; coding & decoding; numerical and symbolic operations; trends; space orientation and visualization; Venn diagrams; drawing inferences; punched hole and pattern folding/unfolding; figural pattern folding and completion; indexing; address matching; date & city matching; embedded figures; critical thinking; emotional and social intelligence.   • Quantitative Aptitude (10 Marks): Whole numbers, decimals, fractions and relationships between numbers; percentage; ratio & proportion; square roots; averages; interest; profit and loss; discount; partnership business; mixture and allegation; time and distance; time & work; basic algebraic identities and elementary surds; graphs of linear equations; triangle and its various kinds of centres; congruence and similarity of triangles; circle and its chords and tangents; quadrilaterals; regular polygons; right prism, right circular cone and cylinder, sphere, hemispheres, rectangular parallelepiped and regular right pyramid; trigonometric ratios; degree and radian measures; standard identities; complementary angles; heights and distances; histogram, frequency polygon, bar diagram & pie chart. Part II: Core Subject – Sanskrit (60 Marks)

Questions are based on the topics of the syllabus prescribed by the Board of School Education Haryana for classes VI to X, but their difficulty level and conceptual linkages can extend up to the senior secondary stage. The 60-mark Sanskrit paper is divided into three भागाः (parts).

A) प्रथमो भागः (Part I) – Prescribed Texts and Basic Grammar

  • पाठ्यपुस्तकानि: रुचिरा प्रथमो भागः, रुचिरा द्वितीयो भागः, रुचिरा तृतीयो भागः, शेमुषी प्रथमो भागः and शेमुषी द्वितीयो भागः. Multiple-choice questions are set on पठित (seen) and अपठित (unseen) गद्यांश based on the teaching points of these books.
  • संज्ञा प्रकरणम्: इत्संज्ञा, प्रत्याहारसंज्ञा, उदात्त, अनुदात्त, स्वरित, संयोगसंज्ञा, सवर्णसंज्ञा, उच्चारणस्थानानि, पदसंज्ञा and प्रयत्नानि.
  • सन्धि प्रकरणम्: सन्धि and सन्धिविच्छेद according to the sutras – इको यणचि, अकः सवर्णे दीर्घः, आद्गुणः, वृद्धिरेचि, लोपः शाकल्यस्य, स्तोः श्चुना श्चुः, ष्टुना ष्टुः, झलां जशोऽन्ते, तोर्लि, झरो झरि सवर्णे, मोऽनुस्वारः, अनुस्वारस्य ययि परसवर्णः, विसर्जनीयस्य सः and related rules.
  • समासाः: As per the मध्यसिद्धान्तकौमुदी – केवलसमासः, अव्ययीभावसमासः, तत्पुरुषः, कर्मधारयः, द्विगुः, द्वन्द्वः and बहुव्रीहिः; सामान्यपरिचयः, पदानां समासः and समासविग्रहः.
  • प्रत्ययाः: पूर्वकृदन्त, उत्तरकृदन्त, तद्धित and स्त्रीलिङ्ग प्रत्यय – क्त, क्तवतु, शतृ, शानच्, यत्, तव्यत्, तव्य, अनीयर्, ण्वुल्, तृच्, ल्यु, णिनि, तुमुन्, क्तिन्, ल्यप्, क्त्वा, णमुल्, मतुप्, तरप्, तमप्, ठक्, ठन्, टाप्, ङीप्, ङीष् and others.

B) द्वितीयो भागः (Part II) – Avyaya, Upsarg and Karak

  • अव्ययपदानि: सामान्यप्रश्नाः on अत्र, अधः, इतः, इत्थम्, इदानीम्, शनैः, उच्चैः, नीचैः, नमः, कथम्, कदापि, यद्यपि, यथा, तथा, खलु, धिक्, प्रातः, किम्, किमर्थम्, यतः and कुतः.
  • प्रादि उपसर्गाः: उपसर्गाः क्रियायोगे – general questions on prefixes joined to verbs.
  • विशेष्य-विशेषणम्: Agreement of noun and adjective.
  • विलोमपदं पर्यायपदञ्च: Antonyms and synonyms.
  • कारकप्रकरणम्: As per the सिद्धान्तकौमुदी, with sutras – general introduction and वाक्यप्रयोग.

C) तृतीयो भागः (Part III) – Chhand, Alankar and Literature

  • छन्दांसि: अनुष्टुप्, इन्द्रवज्रा, उपजाति, वंशस्थम्, द्रुतविलम्बितम्, वसन्ततिलका, मालिनी, शार्दूलविक्रीडितम्, शिखरिणी and मन्दाक्रान्ता.
  • अलङ्काराः: अनुप्रासः, यमकम्, श्लेषः, उपमा, अर्थान्तरन्यासः, उत्प्रेक्षा, अतिशयोक्तिः and निदर्शना.
  • महाकवयः: कालिदासः, भारविः, श्रीहर्षः, माघः, वाल्मीकिः and वेदव्यासः.
  • गद्यकाव्यकवयः: दण्डी, सुबन्धुः, बाणभट्टः, अम्बिकदत्तव्यासः and शुद्रकः.
  • नीतिकवयः: भर्तृहरिः, पं. विष्णुशर्मा and नारायणपण्डितः.
  • काव्यशास्त्रकाराः: मम्मटः, भामहः, आनन्दवर्धनः, विश्वनाथः and भरतमुनिः.
  • आधुनिकसंस्कृतकवयः: देवर्षिः कलानाथशास्त्री, भट्ट मथुरानाथशास्त्री, पं. पद्मशास्त्री and डॉ. प्रभाकरशास्त्री.
  • षड्वेदाङ्गानि: शिक्षा, कल्पः, व्याकरणम्, ज्योतिषः, छन्दः and निरुक्तम् – सामान्यपरिचयः; along with उपनिषदां वेदानां च सामान्यपरिचयः.
  • संस्कृत शिक्षण के उद्देश्य – aims and objectives of teaching Sanskrit at the upper primary and secondary level.
  • संस्कृत शिक्षण की विधियाँ – methods and approaches, including the pathshala, textual and communicative methods.
  • शिक्षण सहायक सामग्री – teaching-learning material, charts, shloka recitation and the use of ICT.
  • मूल्यांकन – evaluation and assessment in Sanskrit, diagnosis of learners’ difficulties and remedial teaching.

How to Prepare for the HTET TGT Sanskrit Syllabus 2026

Questions in Level-2 are set on the topics prescribed by the Board of School Education Haryana for classes VI to X, but their difficulty and conceptual linkages can extend up to the senior secondary stage. Plan accordingly.

  • Start with the BSEH/NCERT textbooks of classes VI–X for Sanskrit and build your notes chapter-wise before touching any guidebook.
  • The common sections are where preparation converts most reliably into marks.
  • Revise Haryana G.K. and current affairs weekly; this is the section most candidates leave until it is too late.
  • Practise at full length and full speed, not in short bursts.
  • Solve previous year HTET Level-2 Sanskrit papers to understand the question style and the recurring topics.
  • Pedagogy questions are among the more approachable on the paper - do not skip them.
