HTET PRT Syllabus 2026

HTET Level-1 is structured differently from the levels above it, and the difference matters. Five sections - Child Development and Pedagogy, Languages, General Studies, Mathematics and Environmental Studies - carry thirty marks each. There is no sixty-mark specialism to lean on, which means no section can be treated as the one you will make up elsewhere.

That even weighting is the single most useful fact for planning PRT preparation. Below is the official syllabus for all five sections as notified by the Board of School Education Haryana for candidates intending to teach classes I to V, together with the complete exam pattern for 2026.

Look at the mark split before the syllabus itself. HTET Level-1 has only one paper of 150 Multiple Choice Questions carrying 150 marks, with a duration of two-and-a-half hours and no negative marking. Each question has four alternatives, out of which one is correct.

The qualifying mark is 60% (90 marks) for all categories, and 55% (82 marks) for Scheduled Castes and Differently Abled/Physically Challenged candidates of Haryana domicile. Note that unlike Level-2 and Level-3, there is no optional subject in Level-1 – every candidate attempts the same paper.

Part I: Child Development and Pedagogy (30 Marks) - HTET PRT Syllabus 2026

This section focuses on the educational psychology of teaching and learning relevant to the age group of 6 to 11 years. It tests your understanding of the characteristics and needs of diverse learners, interaction with learners, and the attributes of a good facilitator of learning. A) Development, Learning and Assessment

• Child Development: Concept of development and its relationship with learning, principles of the development of children, and the influence of Heredity and Environment.
• Socialization Processes: Social world and children – teacher, parents and peers.
• Key Theories: Piaget, Kohlberg and Vygotsky – constructs and critical perspectives.
• Core Concepts: Concepts of child-centred and progressive education; critical perspective of the construct of Intelligence; Multi-Dimensional Intelligence; Language and Thought.
• Gender and Diversity: Gender as a social construct, gender roles, gender bias and educational practice; individual differences among learners based on diversity of language, caste, gender, community and religion.
• Assessment: Distinction between assessment for learning and assessment of learning; School-Based Assessment; Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation – perspective and practice; formulating appropriate questions for assessing readiness levels, for enhancing learning and critical thinking, and for assessing learner achievement.

B) Inclusive Education, Learning and Pedagogy

• Inclusive Education: Concept of inclusive education and understanding children with special needs; addressing learners from diverse backgrounds including the disadvantaged and deprived; addressing the needs of children with learning difficulties and impairment; addressing the talented, creative and specially abled learners.
• Learning and Pedagogy: How children think and learn; how and why children "fail" to achieve success in school performance; basic processes of teaching and learning; children's strategies of learning; learning as a social activity and the social context of learning.
• The Child as Enquirer: Child as a problem solver and a "scientific investigator"; alternative conceptions of learning in children; understanding children's "errors" as significant steps in the learning process.
• Factors in Learning: Cognition and emotions; motivation and learning; factors contributing to learning – personal and environmental.

Part II: Languages (30 Marks)

Split evenly between Hindi and English, this part tests the proficiencies related to the medium of instruction at the primary stage.

A) Language I – Hindi (15 Marks)

• Language Comprehension: Reading an unseen passage – one passage from prose, drama or poetry with questions on comprehension, inference, grammar and verbal ability. The passage may be literary, scientific, narrative or discursive. Practise the Hindi Grammar question bank here.
• Pedagogy of Language Development: Learning and acquisition; principles of language teaching; role of listening and speaking; function of language and how children use it as a tool; critical perspective on the role of grammar in learning a language for communicating ideas verbally and in written form.
• Classroom Challenges: Challenges of teaching language in a diverse classroom; language difficulties, errors and disorders; language skills.
• Teaching-Learning Materials: Textbook, multi-media materials and the multilingual resource of the classroom.

B) Language II – English (15 Marks)

• Language Comprehension: One unseen prose passage – discursive, literary, narrative or scientific – with questions on comprehension, grammar and verbal ability. Practise the English Grammar question bank here.
• Pedagogy of Language Development: Learning and acquisition; principles of language teaching; role of listening and speaking; function of language and how children use it as a tool; critical perspective on the role of grammar.
• Classroom Challenges: Challenges of teaching language in a diverse classroom; language difficulties, errors and disorders; language skills.
• Teaching-Learning Materials: Textbook, multi-media materials and the multilingual resource of the classroom.

Part III: General Studies (30 Marks)

A composite section designed to test your mental aptitude and awareness of Haryana, split 10 + 10 + 10.

A) Haryana G.K. and Awareness (10 Marks)

• Haryana related history, current affairs, literature, geography, civics, environment, culture, art, traditions and the welfare schemes of the Haryana Government. Attempt the Haryana GK practice set.

B) General Intelligence and Reasoning (10 Marks)

• Both verbal and non-verbal type questions on analogies, similarities and differences, space visualization, spatial orientation, problem solving, analysis, judgment, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, figural classification, arithmetic number series, non-verbal series, coding and decoding, statement conclusion and syllogistic reasoning.
• Specific topics: Semantic, Symbolic/Number and Figural Analogy; Semantic, Symbolic/Number and Figural Classification; Semantic, Number and Figural Series; Problem Solving; Word Building; Coding and De-coding; Numerical and Symbolic Operations; Trends; Space Orientation and Visualization; Venn Diagrams; Drawing Inferences; Punched hole/pattern folding and un-folding; Figural pattern folding and completion; Indexing; Address matching; Date and city matching; Classification of centre codes/roll numbers; Small and Capital letters/numbers coding, decoding and classification; Embedded Figures; Critical thinking; Emotional Intelligence and Social Intelligence. C) Quantitative Aptitude (10 Marks)

• Computation of whole numbers, decimals, fractions and relationships between numbers; percentage; ratio and proportion; square roots; averages; interest; profit and loss; discount; partnership business; mixture and allegation; time and distance; time and work.
• Basic algebraic identities of school algebra and elementary surds; graphs of linear equations; triangle and its various kinds of centres; congruence and similarity of triangles; circle and its chords, tangents, angles subtended by chords, and common tangents to two or more circles.
• Triangle, quadrilaterals, regular polygons, circle, right prism, right circular cone, right circular cylinder, sphere, hemispheres, rectangular parallelepiped and regular right pyramid with triangular or square base.
• Trigonometric ratio; degree and radian measures; standard identities; complementary angles; heights and distances; histogram; frequency polygon; bar diagram and pie chart. Practise the Mathematics question bank.

Part IV: Mathematics (30 Marks)

This is a subject-specific section under the HTET PRT Syllabus 2026, and it carries both content and pedagogy questions.

A) Mathematics Content

• Geometry: Shapes and spatial understanding, and solids around us.
• Numbers: Numbers, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division.
• Measurement: Measurement, weight, time and volume.
• Data and Patterns: Data handling, patterns and money.

B) Pedagogical Issues

• Nature of Mathematics and logical thinking; understanding children's thinking and reasoning patterns and their strategies of making meaning and learning.
• Place of Mathematics in the curriculum; language of Mathematics; community Mathematics.
• Evaluation through formal and informal methods; problems of teaching.
• Error analysis and related aspects of learning and teaching; diagnostic and remedial teaching.

Part V: Environmental Studies (30 Marks)

The second subject-specific section, again split between content and pedagogy.

A) Environmental Studies Content

• Family and Friends: Relationships, work and play, animals and plants.
• Everyday Life: Food, shelter, water, travel, and things we make and do.

B) Pedagogical Issues

• Concept and scope of EVS; significance of EVS and integrated EVS.
• Environmental Studies and Environmental Education; learning principles.
• Scope and relation to Science and Social Science; approaches of presenting concepts.
• Activities, experimentation and practical work, discussion, CCE, teaching material and aids, and problems.

How to Prepare for the HTET PRT Syllabus 2026

Questions in Level-1 are set on the topics prescribed by the Education Department, Government of Haryana for classes I to V, but their difficulty standard and linkages can extend up to the secondary stage. That single line is the most misread sentence in the whole notification – the content is primary, the difficulty is not.

• Read the Haryana/NCERT textbooks of classes I–V for Mathematics and EVS first, then raise your level with secondary-stage practice questions on the same topics.
• Treat all five sections as equal – each is worth exactly 30 marks, so weak preparation in EVS costs as much as weak preparation in Child Development.
• Child Development and Pedagogy here is pitched at ages 6–11, so answer from the perspective of a primary classroom, not a secondary one.
• Revise Haryana G.K. and current affairs weekly; this is the section most candidates leave until it is too late.
• Attempt full-length mocks of 150 questions in 2.5 hours so your speed matches the real paper. There is no negative marking, so never leave a question blank.
• Solve previous year HTET Level-1 papers to understand the question style and the recurring topics.
